On this date: Ken Griffey Jr. iconic rookie card photograph was taken

On April 17, 1989, Sports Illustrated photgrapher VJ Lovero took one of the most iconic images in baseball history. For the story "Born to be a Big Leaguer" about Ken Griffey Jr. and his father Ken Sr., Lovero took images of the pair, but also took a solo photo of Griffey Jr. That image would be used for the Upper Deck 1989 Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card, which has become one of the most important baseball cards in history.
