One collector now owns the headset of the coach who engineered one of the greatest and most shocking seasons in college football history.
The headset worn by Indiana coach Curt Cignetti throughout the Hoosiers' undefeated season, including their victory over Miami in the national title game, has sold for $112,500 at auction.
Bidding exploded in the final 24 hours of the sale, jumping from $20,000 to $112,500. There were a total of 212 bids on the headset, which was sold via Bison Drop, Indiana's site for authentic IU athlete gear auctions.
Proceeds from the Cignetti headset will go to Indiana’s NIL fund.
This isn't the first time someone paid big money for a coach-worn headset. Bill Belichick’s game-worn Super Bowl XXXVI Motorola headset fetched $10,200 in 2018. But like this season, Cignetti comes out on top.
