In 2016, the Masters merchandise tent at Augusta National started offering a collectible gnome.
The original gnome, dressed in a sweater in Masters colors, sold out quickly for $35 nine years ago.

On Sunday, one of those gnomes sold for $10,195 at The Golf Auction in what was a wild bidding war.
As the gnome has grown in popularity as a rare staple to the merchandise tent, the original gnome from that first year has gone up in price from $35 to $200 to $5,000 on eBay.
Martin Buckley of Palm Beach Autographs remembers getting a gnome in 2016.
"We showed up on Monday, and they had them," Buckley said. "It was a new item, I have a garden, so I grabbed one." Impressed by how fast they seemed to be selling, Buckley bought another one later in the week.
"One I put in my garden, and it's rotting away," Buckley said. "The other I still have in its box, and I told my wife one day we should sell it and go on a nice vacation."
The Golf Auction auctioned off nine gnomes for $13,101. A representative of the auction house said that one collector won four of them.
