A Hank Aaron jersey from his 1963 season with the Milwaukee Braves has surfaced at auction for the first time at Grey Flannel.

The jersey was originally gifted by the Braves equipment manager to its consignor in 1964, along with an Eddie Matthews jersey from the same season.

Following the 1963 season, in which Aaron led the league with 44 home runs, 130 RBIs, 121 runs scored and placed third in MVP voting, the team removed the name on the back of the jersey (as was customary) for use in the next year’s spring training.

In the years since, the jersey has been professionally restored, with “H. Aaron” replaced on the back in red.

Aaron’s last name had his first initial preceding it for that season as his brother, Tommie, was also with the Braves that season.

The jersey is matched to a road game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. During the 1963 season, the Braves played nine road games against the Dodgers and homered in four of them.

Milwaukee Braves jerseys from Aaron’s career (he debuted in 1954 and the team moved to Atlanta for the 1966 season) are quite rare, especially those with photo matches.

The record for any Aaron jersey belongs to the $2.1 million sale of his rookie season Braves jersey. Other Milwaukee Braves Aaron gamers to sell in recent years includes an undated 1965 jersey ($138,000 in 2019), a 1959 jersey ($90,000 in 2020) and a 1962 jersey ($420,000 in 2024).

The Mathews jersey, also from 1963, is signed and has similar restoration.
