Even as the sports world focuses on the NFL, NBA and NHL as we head into the holidays, with the 2025 MLB season in the rear-view mirror, reigning NL MVP Shohei Ohtani remains among the hottest names in the collectibles world.
For the first time, one of Ohtani’s World Series home run balls is being offered at auction. Bidding at SCP Auctions has reached $130,000, with nearly a week remaining.
The ball comes from Ohtani’s second home run, which tied the game during the Dodgers' historic 18-inning victory in Game 3. Ohtani put on a clinic that day reaching base during all nine of his plate appearances.
Ohtani has hit three World Series home runs, all in 2025, and this is the first of the trio to reach the auction block. His first World Series home run ball was caught by a fan who has yet to come forward publicly, and the other blast from Game 3 was collected by Dodgers personnel.
The market for Ohtani home run balls has been as hot as any sector of the hobby. Ohtani’s 50-50 home run ball set an all-time record when it fetched $4,392,000 last year.
SCP Auctions is no stranger to auctioning off major home run balls, having sold Freddie Freeman’s World Series grand slam ball in 2024 for $1.56 million. The West Coast-based auction house also sold a home run ball from Ohtani’s now-legendary Game 4 NLCS performance earlier this year for $270,000.
The Ohtani World Series homer is lot No. 1 of the 2025 World Series Spotlight auction, along with six other lots relating to Miguel Rojas, including his Game 7 jersey, glove and cleats.
