Barely two years after selling for $715,120 at Grey Flannel Auctions, the jersey Wayne Gretzky wore when he recorded his final NHL point will return to the auction block, arriving at Sotheby’s with an estimate in excess of $1 million.

Actor and well-known collector Rob Gough was the buyer in 2023 and is now selling the jersey.

During the final game of Gretzky’s career, he wore four jerseys: one during warm-ups and one for each period. The No. 99 Rangers jerseys which will be auctioned at Sotheby’s in a live sale on Sept. 30 at the auction house’s New York location was worn in the second period, when “The Great One” recorded his 2,857th point.

“Few objects in the history of sport so perfectly embody both the end of an era and the enduring power of a singular career like this New York Rangers jersey from Wayne Gretzky’s final career game,” Sotheby’s Brahm Wachter said in a statement. “It’s unbelievable to recognize that he wore this for his final career point.”

In 2022, Gretzky’s final Edmonton Oilers jersey sold for $1.45 million — a record for any NHL jersey.
