PSA parent company Collectors reached an agreement to acquire grading competitor Beckett, the company announced Monday.
Beckett will remain an independent brand and continue to utilize its own operations, customer service, grading standards, marketplace, magazines and price guides, Collectors said.
“I am pleased to share that the iconic Beckett is joining the Collectors family and will continue to operate as its own independent brand within our portfolio,” Nat Turner, CEO of Collectors, said in a statement.
“The first card I ever submitted for grading was to Beckett, and I consider Collectors custodians of this important icon in the hobby. We believe that strong, well-supported brands help grow access to the hobby.”
Orders at PSA and Beckett are expected to be processed normally and there are expected to be no changes in pricing as part of the acquisition.
Sources told cllct PSA and Beckett will not share staff for grading operations.
Grading at the two companies will remain separate processes, and crossover grading will not be impacted.
Founded by Dr. James Beckett, Beckett Media & Collectibles has been best known for its line of magazines and price guides as well as Beckett Grading Services, which launched in 1999. Beckett sold Beckett Media in 2005.
Collēctīvus Holdings was announced as the new parent company for Beckett in December 2024, with the company overseeing Beckett as well as accessory maker Dragon Shield and card distributor Southern Hobby Distribution. Sources told cllct Dragon Shield is not part of the acquisition.
Beckett’s acquisition is the second time Collectors has acquired a major trading card grading competitor. Collectors acquired SGC in February 2024, and has since been in the process of transitioning the company into a “boutique” grading brand.
That acquisition arrived alongside the resignation of SGC president Peter Steinberg, with PSA president Ryan Hoge overseeing operations at both companies.
According to third-party grading tracker GemRate, PSA has graded more than 18.3 million cards so far in 2025. Among the other major card graders, CGC Cards has graded 4.7 million, SGC has graded 1.4 million and Beckett has graded nearly 790,000.
Of the four major card graders, CGC is the only company outside of the Collectors umbrella. PSA, SGC and Beckett combine for roughly 79% of the overall grading market.
