Alongside the introduction of Starbucks’ holiday menu Thursday, stores rolled out glass "Bearista" cups for $29.95.
Within hours, many stores around the country had sold out, and the secondary market was set ablaze.
The glass cups, which are shaped like a bear wearing a Starbucks beanie with a straw through its head, sold for as much as $450 on eBay Thursday morning, according to eBay’s sales tool Terapeak.
This was not a one-off exception either, as hundreds of units of the hot new collectible sold throughout the morning, generally ranging in price from $200 to $350.
Starbucks is no stranger to collectibles, as the coffee company has long supplied its stores with city and location-specific mugs and tumblers, and often in limited editions.
According to Starbucks’ announcement last month, items released Thursday would be available for a limited time and only while supplies last.
One store in the Seattle area told cllct the glasses sold out immediately when the doors opened this morning — even before a cashier was able to grab one for herself.
