Coming up on Pokémon's 30th anniversary, Magic: The Gathering is having its own moment.
Few athletes were in the spotlight as much as American figure skater Amber Glenn over the course of the 2026 Winter Olympics. And during that time, Glenn showcased her love of MTG in a myriad of ways, most notably though, opening packs of packs of Lorwyn Eclipsed during the Closing Ceremonies.
“I go to local game stores and play," Glenn said in a video from her NBC Olympics profile. "I know it’s nerdy, but it’s my hobby and I enjoy it.”
She even named her dog Uki after Ukkima, Stalking Shadow.
Glenn may very well have taken the mantle of the celebrity face of MTG. For years, Post Malone held the reigns after purchasing the serialized 1-of-1 The One Ring card from The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth for over $2M.
But with her ever-growing social media presence due to the games, and how often she posts across her channels about MTG, she may be the top dog.
This all comes just a few weeks after Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Leonard Williams made headlines during Super Bowl week discussing his personal collection.
Williams' collection, which he valued at over $1 million, is full of Magic: The Gathering, including ultra-rare uncut sheets, which he has featured in his home.
Colorless is his favorite deck and he likes "to run Zhulodok." Additionally, Williams estimates his most valuable card is a /100 One Ring card from The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth set.
And while MTG isn't quite as popular as Pokémon, especially among celebrity collectors, it still brought in over $1.7 billion to Hasbro last year.
