A 1997 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems Green Barry Sanders card graded PSA 8 sold for $372,000 Thursday night at Fanatics Collect, establishing a new record for any Sanders card.
The previous record for a Sanders card was set in April 2024 when a 1998 Metal Universe PMG Gem Master 1/1 went for $168,000.
Few if any parallels in the history of the hobby are as coveted and significant as the Metal Universe PMG Green and Red cards. In the 1997 set, the red PMGs were limited to 135 and the green to just 15.
The PSA 8 example which sold Thursday night is one of two at the grade with none higher; PMGs are notoriously condition sensitive.
The only other example of the card in public sales history is a PSA 7 copy which sold for $48,750 in December 2020.
