One of Willie Mays’ rarest cards is set to sell this week at Huggins and Scott, with bidding currently sitting at $60,000.
The card comes from the somewhat mysterious and little-known 1961 Topps Dice Game set, an 18-card test issue which never had a proper release — as indicated by missing copyright and trademark information. Apparently meant to serve as a game for collectors, the precious few examples which left the factory have become sought-after rarities.
Between PSA and SGC, just 35 total cards from the set have been graded, including just four copies of the Mays. The Mays example hitting the auction block this week is graded PSA 5 (the grading company has also graded a PSA 2 and PSA 6).

The most valuable card from the set features Mickey Mantle, with a PSA 1 copy selling for nearly $400,000 in 2022. The record for a Mays Topps Dice Game was set in 2021 by the lone SGC 4.5 example, which sold for $127,402 in April 2021. The PSA 6 example sold for $30,995 in 2014.
The only known uncut sheet of the set sold earlier this year for $252,000.
