From figures and toys to props and autographs, the Star Wars franchise has been one of the most important to collectors for nearly 50 years.

And since the first set arrived in 1977, the franchise has also delivered some of the most important non-sports chases for trading card hobbyists, too.

Littered with vintage grails and ultra high-end modern cards, here are the 10 most expensive Star Wars cards to sell publicly, according to Card Ladder.

What better way to celebrate the impending arrival of May 4, aka Star Wars Day?

Considered the “rookie” card for the most important character from what is considered the first and most significant Star Wars trading card set, Luke Skywalker No. 1 is among the most coveted non-sports cards from any category.

The card’s blue starfield border makes it easy to spot, but also easily shows damage easily, making high-grade examples extremely difficult to find.

Of the five most expensive public Star Wars card sales to date, three are examples of the Luke Skywalker No. 1. There are just nine PSA 10s, including this copy, which sold at Heritage in 2023.

2. 1977 Topps Star Wars Luke Skywalker Sticker PSA 10: $57,600

Each pack of 1977 Topps Star Wars included one sticker, which features a design that is easy to distinguish from the regular trading cards.

But like the regular cards, the stickers feature a border that is prone to damage. PSA has graded more than 1,100 examples of the Luke Skywalker sticker, and just one has earned a gem-mint 10.

That copy sold at Heritage in 2023.

3. 1977 Topps Star Wars The Villainous Darth Vader PSA 10: $48,000

Beyond the Skywalker No. 1, the key Darth Vader card from the iconic 1977 Topps Star Wars set has been arguably the most important.

Every great story has a hero, but the best often have the most iconic villains, too.

PSA has graded nearly 1,300 examples of The Villainous Darth Vader, and just five have scored a 10. One of those five sold at Heritage in 2023 and ranks as the highest sale for any Star Wars cards that doesn’t feature Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker.

4. 2015 Topps Star Wars Chrome Perspectives Mark Hamill Jedi vs. Sith Autographs Superfractor 1/1 BGS 9: $32,100

Though there is little argument the 1977 Topps set is the franchise’s most important, a number of releases during the modern and ultra-modern era have delivered iconic cards.

Topps Chrome sets are some of the most popular, and on-card, pack-pulled autographs — which didn’t exist for the 1977 set — are critical chases.

This example, signed by Hamill, features a shot of Skywalker alongside the beloved Yoda. One of the most important modern Star Wars cards to date, this BGS 9 example sold at Goldin in 2023.

5. 2024 Topps Chrome Star Wars Ford/Hamill/Fisher Autograph Superfractor 1/1 PSA 10: $30,195

Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are the most coveted trio of autographs in the Star Wars universe. It’s difficult to find them separately, and extremely rare to find a card with all of them together.

Since her death in 2016, Fisher’s autographs have become increasingly scarce, and they rarely appear on ultra-modern cards.

This 2024 Topps Chrome Star Wars Triple Autograph Superfractor is one of the greatest cards ever created for the franchise, and sold at Goldin in 2025.

6. 2022 Topps Star Wars Chrome Galaxy Darth Vader Superfractor 1/1 PSA 9: $24,600

The beloved Galaxy set was given the chromium treatment for just the second time in its history in 2022, and this Darth Vader card was one of the most popular designs.

The Superfractor parallel explodes off the card because of the space on either side of Vader’s helmet, and the black border pulls the card together nicely. Sometimes the most simple design compositions end up being the best.

Graded a PSA 9, this Superfractor 1/1 sold at Goldin in 2023.

7. 2014 Topps Star Wars Chrome Perspectives James Earl Jones Autograph Superfractor 1/1 BGS 9.5: $19,260

Though Jones is considered one of the greatest actors in American history, it was his voice Star Wars fans came to love.

Jones provided the voice for Darth Vader in the franchise’s original trilogy, and collectibles featuring the star have been highly coveted in the years since.

This card, which features his on-card autograph alongside Vader’s armor, sold at Goldin in 2023.

8. 2020 Topps Star Wars Masterwork Ultra Autograph Booklet 1/1: $15,678

The Masterwork brand is known for producing high-end cards, and it delivered exactly that with this 10-autograph booklet.

Highlighted by ink from Fisher and Ford, the card also features Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Kenny Baker (R2-D2), Ian McDiarmid (Emperor Palpatine), Caroline Blakiston (Mon Mothma), Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), Denis Lawson (Wedge Antille) and Warwick Davis (multiple characters).

This card sold on eBay in 2022.

9. 2021 Topps Star Wars Masterwork Natalie Portman Silver Framed Autograph /5: $14,750

Unlike many of the other characters involved in the Star Wars franchise, Portman is likely best known for her roles outside of the galaxy far, far away.

Her autograph is still popular among fans, though, and this one, which is on-card alongside a photograph of her as Padmé Amidala, sold on eBay in 2022.

10. 1977 Star Wars Wonder Bread Jawas PSA 10: $13,500

The 1977 Star Wars Wonder Bread set is considered small but mighty among hardcore collectors. It remains highly desirable for those looking outside the traditional Topps sets.

PSA has graded less than 800 of the Jawas card, and just eight have gemmed — likely due to the card’s black border.

This PSA 10 example sold at PWCC in 2021.
