The Dutch auction for boxes of 2025-26 Topps Chrome Basketball First Day Issue ended Thursday when the product sold out at $1,750 per box.
The Dutch auction was the first for Topps, which is expected to utilize the release format for premium trading card sets, including the all-new First Day Issue configurations.
Boxes of Topps Chrome Basketball First Day Issue contain three autographs and two exclusive First Day Issue parallels. Parallels will be a mix of the tri-color Green Yellow Purple numbered to eight and a Silver parallel numbered to 12.
Bidding began at $3,500 per box and lowered every three minutes before ending after 42 minutes. Topps didn’t immediately announce how many boxes were sold at each price.
Hobby and Jumbo boxes of 2025-26 Topps Chrome Basketball, which sold out in just two minutes earlier this month, originally retailed for $369.99 and $699.99 each. Jumbo boxes have since flipped on eBay for as much as $1,400, according to research tool Terapeak.
Prior to Thursday’s Dutch auction, Topps had utilized the EQL platform for some of its most desirable drops. The EQL format requires customers to win a random lottery to purchase, which helps limit the impact of bots or individuals acquiring large amounts of product.
