Originally created for Topps’ MLB products to celebrate each league’s MVP, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year winners, the program was expanded in October to include the NBA’s MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.
Those players — Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Cleveland’s Evan Mobley and San Antonio’s Stephon Castle — will wear gold logos on the back of their jerseys during the 2025 season, with those patches eventually removed and placed into high-end trading cards for select products.
The first group of NBA Gold Logoman cards will be released as part of 2025 Topps Chrome Basketball, which lands Thursday.
So far, Topps’ Gold Logoman cards have been highly coveted by collectors on the secondary market. The current public record for any Gold Logoman, according to data tool Card Ladder, is the $21,960 paid for a Dual Gold Logoman of 2024 Cy Young winners Chris Sale and Tarik Skubal.
That record will be broken later this week when the Shohei Ohtani Gold Logoman 1/1 sells at Fanatics Collect on Thursday.
Currently at $1.26 million, including buyer’s premium, that card will set the record for any Ohtani card at public auction by besting the $1,067,000 million paid for the Logoman 1/1 worn during his historic 50/50 game.
